Theatre for All Ages in the River District

Florida Repertory Theatre is celebrating ten years of award-winning professional theatre in the River District with programming for adults, children and families. Florida Rep's 10th Anniversary Season has run from quirky Off Broadway comedy to Pulitzer winning drama, all the way to Rome with Sondheim's nine-time Tony-winning musical farce, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

Historic Arcade Theatre

Forum runs through March 16, and the season includes the Mafia-meets-Theatre comedy, Breaking Legs and the touching and heartwarming drama, Visiting Mr. Green starring David S. Howard, who delighted audiences as Morrie in the 2006 production of Tuesdays with Morrie.

In addition to the mainstage season, Florida Rep's education department continues to grow and adapt to the times. The Lunchbox Theatre Series has been revolutionized, classes for youth and adults are booming, summer camp will be bigger and better than ever and now Florida Rep is offering to babysit for parents who can't seem to find time for a night out.

In January the Lunchbox Theatre Series for families moved to its new home in the River District, The Brick Bar Theatre, and is performing every Saturday morning at 11am through May 10.

Now offering three plays for the whole family, Florida Rep is proud to present the new play, ZAP! by Eric Coble in partnership with LCEC, which opened the series in January, Ms. Courageous: Women of Science by Joanna Halpert Kraus and the fun and zany, Mischief Makers by Lowell Swortzell.

The Mischief Makers plays on March 8 & 29, April 19 and May 10

ZAP! plays March 15, April 5 & 26

Ms. Courageous plays March 22, April 12 and May 3

Florida Rep has also branched out into the world of childcare with the New $10 Baby Sitting Nights. While their parents see the play, children take part in an interactive theatre workshop, enjoy a snack and games.

The cost for Babysitting is $10 for children ages 4 to 11 with the purchase two regular price tickets ($38 each) to the selected performances of each of its upcoming plays.

In past seasons Florida Rep has offered classes for youth and adults in three sessions, but this year will offer a fourth class session that will run into the month of June. The spring class session begins on March 24 and runs through April 28, with the new session beginning on May 5 and running to June 9.

"We're very happy to have so much to offer the community," said Education Coordinator, Rachael Endrizzi. "Classes have been very popular this season, and we're pleased that the outreach programs are growing. It is very encouraging to see the demand for arts education in Fort Myers."

The spring and early summer class sessions will feature some familiar and new faces in the Rep classroom with classes in dance, taught by Florida Rep intern and 2007 graduate of the American Music and Dramatic Academy, Rachel Lomax, as well as physical comedy & clowning, and a scene study course for adults taught by Florida Rep regular, Rachel Burttram, as well as veteran actor and Rep regular, Carol A. Provonsha.

Florida Rep's popular Camp Florida Rep for ages 5 and up is also gearing up for a very exciting summer with a few new features as well. "In addition to our traditional two week sessions of camp," Endrizzi continued, "we have a special one-week Theatre intensive this summer for ages 8 and up." This special session of the camp will give students a very saturated Theatre experience that will focus on mask work, movement for actor, voice and diction, scene study, singing and dance.

The Education Department is still in the final planning stages for the camp, but will soon be enrolling students for its summer. Please stay tuned to the Florida Rep website, floridarep.org, for details. For information on the Rep's many education programs, please call Rachael Endrizzi at 239.332.4665 x20.
